LI Renzhi was educated at Xi'an Jiaotong University (BA in English), Essex
University (MA in linguistics & applied linguistics), and Antwerp University (PhD in linguistics & literature). He worked firstly at Xi'an Jiaotong University and later Shantou University, serving as a professor of linguistics, supervisor of MA students, chair of the department of foreign languages, and vice dean of the school of liberal arts. The main courses he taught are English language history, Sociolinguistics, English stylistics, semantics, pragmatics, and comparative studies of languages. He has published over thirty papers on linguistics and applied linguistics. He authored, co-authored, edited, and translated ten books. His current interest is in the comparative study of English and Chinese.
